St Paul tells us we are to discipline or train ourselves to be godly. (1 Tim. 4:7). Paul gives us an example of this in 1 Cor. as he describes the physical training a Greek athlete goes through to compete in the Greek games. So here’s a thought as you watch your favorite football team this weekend. If an athlete goes through the pain of preparing himself for the game to win a temporal prize, how much more should we Christians discipline ourselves to obtain a crown that lasts forever
The Apostle John wrote. “My dear children I write this to you so that you will not sin.” (1 John 2:1) John is saying this to us to make it our aim not to sin. I wonder if this is in my heart or, is it my aim not to sin “very much.” After reading John’s words I realize God is calling us to a higher level of commitment to. NOT SIN at all. Suddenly my idea of “not sinning very much ” sounds pretty weak.
